10 hrs on foot in the City of Brotherly Love

... mimosa, salad, ice cream, friends and shopping!

HILLARY, FRAN & I AT DARK HORSE
So yesterday was amazing, what better way to spend the day than to walk into the city of Philadelphia. It started with a early morning wake up call to two of my fellow interns Hillary and Fran, but like most 9am was a little to early so we headed out at 12:30pm. The goal, to see the city and enjoy the sites. Don't know if we had anticipated that we would be walking for 10hrs but talk about a great workout and many calories lost! We started the journey from campus (Drexel University) and walked straight into the city and up to South Street and back to campus. Approximately 8 1/2 hours of true walk time and 10 hrs on our journey.

With that being said should you happen to visit the great city of Philadelphia I have to recommend that you make a stop at the famous Dark Horse Pub. It's an old favorite watering hole of mine though I didn't recognize it. Its funny just how different a place looks in the day light. I had forgot that a year before I had made my way to this location in many feet of snow during a TKE leadership conference. This 2 floor establishment with its many rooms and windy staircase and subtle but unique touch of old beer/cigar smell is located at 421 South. 2nd Street. Yes it has an interesting odor but what aged bar doesn't! The food was amazing and well the atmosphere makes the drinks taste that much better. Enjoy a mimosa or better yet a nice rich import draught beer, its what they are known for.

SEARED AHI TUNA NICOISE
I decided to have a light lunch so I chose the Nicoise .. w/ bibb lettuce, egg, kalamata olives, onion, asparagus, tomato, cucumber & dijon tarragon vinaigrette and only $12.99. It was quite Yummy, though the tuna was a little small but you know what as I shared above the atmosphere added to the experience.

What better way to end the meal with Philly's very own "House made ice cream" So you might remember this sign from The Food Network's Man vs. Food. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZYu9wVkvqw&feature=relatedThough I didnt eat what he had my dish was equally delish! I recommend 2 scoops of the maple pecan and banana icecream topped w/ dark chocolate .. Yum. Franklin Fountain is located at 116 Market St. and a definite must try. Downside, be prepared for a long line and make a stop at the ATM as this place takes CASH ONLY!
