Rockwilder vs. Rottweiler

Its called Rottweiler you silly people ... What really grinds my gears is hearing people refer to this breed of dog as a Rockwilder or Rockweiler. Yes it is known as one of the oldest herding breeds and yes it has quite a stocky frame but a Rock it is not. So lets be educated and refer to things/animals by their actual name.

Its Called Wash Your Hands!!!

So when did we forget as young men the primary teachings of our parents, grade school professors, and/or childhood educational shows like Sesame Street and Barney. They taught us the lesson of washing your hands after you use the bathroom. What disturbs me is how many young men these days walk into a bathroom use it and walk out. Never once placing those hands under a faucet, never once lathering them with liquid soap. Whats up with that? Come on men its simple, after you do the deed you simply walk over to the sinks .. you know that thing that collects water and is usually located under a big mirror .. yeah that thing. Well lets start using it. Its not that hard, I mean today like many other days I have observed the "No soap for me man" walk in after me or sometime he may walk in before and then when I head to wash up .. guess where he heads? You guessed it-out the door. WOW!! I mean I guess as a tall 6ft3 black male I can be a tad bit scary to some ..but you walking out the door carrying god knows what on those hands of yours is far more frightening.

Wash up America or encourage those around you to do it. Hell, start challenging the men in your life when they walk out of the bathroom. Remember how your mom used to do it .. "Hey little Johnny did you remember to wash you hands?" .. Johnny's little head nods and shoulders shrug and he runs back in to wash up. Well I don't expect the men in your life to be that honest that they failed to clean those dirty hands of theirs, but I bet you he might just sneak off and wash them later. If so that's a huge win for the clean team!

So these days I encourage you to perhaps do what I do and carry a hand sanitizer on your person. It has become quite the lifesaver and I have started calling it my liquid help. I mean being a social butterfly I am constantly shaking hands and well you never know what gift was just presented to you by those bacteria mittens.

Stay healthy America! Wash up and encourage others to do the same.

Do You Remember that one time when ...

... You looked back on your life and was like, How did I get here?

Well today is one of those days. Looking back I wonder how did I get here to this point in my life. What was the choice(s) I made that was the catalyst for change in my life. I mean I started out as a young 17 y/o with a desire and passion for medicine. One day I would become Dr. Stubbs of Cardiology .. yep me. Now I sit a graduate student in a field so far from the start that it makes me think. Did I make the right choice? Then just when I feel that slight breeze of regret I look at what I am doing and the lives that undoubtedly have changed because of my involvement and I know right then that I did. Today working the Fraternity & Sorority table at New Student Orientation here at Drexel University made me reminisce of a time that was. What a great day interacting with students and sharing my passion for the Fraternity movement couldn't be more in tune with what I love. That love being that of student development. Its moments like to day I thank the choices, becoming a founder of TKE, the advisors/mentors in my life, the wind, or for those more religious than I the man upstairs for what path I am on.

Remember that one time when I figured out that what I did today is just what I should be doing... yep that happened.

10 hrs on foot in the City of Brotherly Love

... mimosa, salad, ice cream, friends and shopping!

HILLARY, FRAN & I AT DARK HORSE
So yesterday was amazing, what better way to spend the day than to walk into the city of Philadelphia. It started with a early morning wake up call to two of my fellow interns Hillary and Fran, but like most 9am was a little to early so we headed out at 12:30pm. The goal, to see the city and enjoy the sites. Don't know if we had anticipated that we would be walking for 10hrs but talk about a great workout and many calories lost! We started the journey from campus (Drexel University) and walked straight into the city and up to South Street and back to campus. Approximately 8 1/2 hours of true walk time and 10 hrs on our journey.

With that being said should you happen to visit the great city of Philadelphia I have to recommend that you make a stop at the famous Dark Horse Pub. It's an old favorite watering hole of mine though I didn't recognize it. Its funny just how different a place looks in the day light. I had forgot that a year before I had made my way to this location in many feet of snow during a TKE leadership conference. This 2 floor establishment with its many rooms and windy staircase and subtle but unique touch of old beer/cigar smell is located at 421 South. 2nd Street. Yes it has an interesting odor but what aged bar doesn't! The food was amazing and well the atmosphere makes the drinks taste that much better. Enjoy a mimosa or better yet a nice rich import draught beer, its what they are known for.

SEARED AHI TUNA NICOISE
I decided to have a light lunch so I chose the Nicoise .. w/ bibb lettuce, egg, kalamata olives, onion, asparagus, tomato, cucumber & dijon tarragon vinaigrette and only $12.99. It was quite Yummy, though the tuna was a little small but you know what as I shared above the atmosphere added to the experience.

What better way to end the meal with Philly's very own "House made ice cream" So you might remember this sign from The Food Network's Man vs. Food. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZYu9wVkvqw&feature=relatedThough I didnt eat what he had my dish was equally delish! I recommend 2 scoops of the maple pecan and banana icecream topped w/ dark chocolate .. Yum. Franklin Fountain is located at 116 Market St. and a definite must try. Downside, be prepared for a long line and make a stop at the ATM as this place takes CASH ONLY!
